Many of us worry about the impact of the human race on our planet. It provides us with air, water, shelter and food, but things have got out of control, leading to pollution, climate change and biodiversity loss. We take things out of the ground, make stuff, use it for a while and then throw it away. But this economic model doesn’t stack up any more. We try to take action on an individual level, but can we really make a difference when governments and large companies aren’t doing their part? This Smiley TALK aims to help you to face the future smiling! Claire Potter, a designer and lecturer, will explain what is meant by “Circular Economy” and how it brings together governments and business to focus on the role they can play in reducing waste, protecting the environment and creating a more fair society. A second keynote will start a conversation about how each of us can be better prepared to live and work in a circular economy, and what mindset and skills will be needed. Other experts from local universities, the council and businesses will join us to view this topic from several different angles. Helping us curate this event is our lead partner Circular Brighton & Hove – a multi-stakeholder network of individuals, SME’s, social enterprises, universities, faith groups, third sector organisations and companies united by the belief that the Circular Economy can have a positive impact, not only on the environment, but also on our society and economy. Join us on Thursday 7th November at 6pm where we will share real-life examples and explore the mindset and skills needed to transition Brighton into a circular economy.
