    Salary £45,700 – £48,000
    Location Hybrid

This is a permanent, full time vacancy that will close in 17 days at 23:59 BST.

    The vacancy

There are expected to be further developments in UK waste and recycling policy as nations design their measures to drive change in both household and business waste services in order to deliver environmental benefits. With new regulations being progressed across the nations on commonality in collection services, DRS and EPR, local authorities across England are considering the implications for the recycling and waste management services they provide. WRAP provides evidence and policy support to a wide range of stakeholders including Government funders that can help evidence, drive and deliver effective service change across a diverse range of sectors.

We’re currently looking for a colleague to join our Policy and Insights team who can work alongside a range of Specialists and Analysts to deliver projects for key funders that inform policy and can help deliver good practice in the field of waste and recycling.

We’re looking for someone who has a very good understanding of waste and recycling collections in the UK and is keen to develop their experience by working on a variety of projects with multiple stakeholders. Previous experience of working for a local authority, commercial collection service or treatment provider and knowledge of the associated processes is essential.

You should be confident in the analysis and interpretation of data, be able to demonstrate good project management skills and be capable of preparing reports and delivering presentations for external audiences.  Where required, you will appoint and manage external contracted support to help with project delivery. You will act as a key point of contact between WRAP and stakeholders, ensure that partners are aware of relevant opportunities to engage with WRAP’s wider work, and can access all relevant products and services offered.

When applying for the role, you’ll be asked to describe how you meet the following job essentials:

    • Significant demonstrable knowledge in relevant specialist remit which could be Local Authority or business waste collections or treatment of recycling/organics streams. This would have been developed through combination of education (i.e., degree) and relevant industry/sector work experience or significant experience in sector developed through working at industry or/and consultancy perspective.
    • Strong advocacy skills, with the ability engage effectively, concisely, and compellingly with a range of audiences, both in writing and in person.
    • A proven ability to understand, absorb and synthesise complex information, translating it into impactful policy, advice, and initiatives, whilst able to see the bigger picture and link to overall strategic aims.
    • Demonstrable evidence of securing and implementing change
    • Demonstrable evidence of excellent communication skills, including experience of explaining complex and technical challenges to a non-technical audience

Taking note: research shows that while men tend to apply for jobs when they meet around 60% of the criteria, women and marginalised people tend to only apply when they check every box. So, if you think you have what it takes, but don’t necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still apply.

Closing date for this role is 12 May 2024 at 23:59

Interviews: shortlisted candidates will be invited to a first round interview after the closing date. It is intended that they will take place on week commencing 20th May remotely via MS Teams

We want you to have every opportunity to demonstrate your skills, ability and potential; please contact us if you require any assistance or adjustment so that we can help with making the application process work for you.

    Ways of Working

You might be pleased to know that along with our flextime policy, we’ve moved to hybrid working here at WRAP. Although this role is contractually based at one of our offices (Banbury, Cardiff, London or Belfast), in reality you will be able to work from home, with the caveat of coming into the office to collaborate with your teams as and when you need to. You, your manager, and your teams will have the freedom to decide when this will need to happen, but when it is agreed it will be important that you do attend the office. If you are invited for an interview, this can be discussed in more detail.

WRAP reserves the right to close this role early in the event of a large volume of applications.

Please note we are able to offer a skilled VISA for this role
