  • UNI-PARAGON established the Taiwanese bag brand “Deya,” naming it after the Taiwanese pronunciation of “Bag”.  In order to reach the goal of Net Zero 2050, the Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs (SMESA) actively assisted SMEs in green transition and through SMESA’ s supervision, PIDC established the collaboration between Uni-Paragon and SMLin setting up a recycling system.

Based on the circular economy concept, Deya adpoted mono-material product design, including face fabric, lining, fasteners, zippers and labels. Deya and Sustainable Materials Liberary ( SML) invited NAN YA which has been in recycling and textiles for years for collaboration.

Deya bag is made of GRS-certified SAYA yarns and recycled PET pellets from ocean waste, and those fasteners and related accessories are also rPET. With over 90% of the design featuring a single material, they produced the “Ocean Recycled Classic Backpack”. The product has undergone carbon footprint certification, and the data shows that compared to backpacks made with new materials, it saves approximately 65% of energy. Each piece is estimated to reduce around 0.8 kg of CO2e carbon footprint emissions.

Deya has established a product recycling and reuse service model in both physical and virtual stores. They also offer incentives to encourage consumers to join recycling used bags. Those regenerated second-hand backbags are donated to ural organizations, not only extending the product’s lifespan but also using for charity. Some old used backpacks is sent to recycling facilities, to be recycled and processed into rPET pellets. These recycled materials can return to Deya’s green supply chain, becoming materials for other products.
