  • Challenges the traditional approach to furniture design, making their sustainable and high-quality products available to the average spender

MADRID, MAY 2019 MAGARU is a new design initiative launched this month by Jaime Martin Villalba from Buenos Días Studio and inspired in origami, the legendary japanese art of paper folding.

Each piece in the MAGARU collection is made out of one single sheet of steel, folded to create the best shape in terms of style, strength and practicality. This is what the MAGARU team define as Intelligent Design and this is how they are going to fulfill their mission to design furniture for everyone.

Jaime has worked with metal for a very long time and the more he did the more benefits he found. Strong, completely recyclable and the most abundant resource in the world are some of the qualities that made him choose steel as the only material for this new furniture collection.

His inclusive approach attracted Spanish design entrepreneurs, Comcosy and We Are Builders, who are now part of the team.

Jaime Martin, Founder of MAGARU, comments: “I can’t afford most of the pieces that I make in my own studio. Talking about this with Comcosy they shared my frustration. We realised we all wanted to create something in line with our common values, like sustainability and quality, that also more people like us could enjoy.”

Pilar Sierra, Creative Director at Comcosy, comments: “When he showed us the first renders we loved the idea, we knew it was going to work in great measure because of its simplicity. With folded metal sheets you remove the weak points, like the junctions between pieces and materials.”

They will be soon launching their first collection with a Kickstarter campaign where the first buyers will be rewarded with up to 60% discount in the MAGARU products. There will be five products in five different colours to choose from: yellow, light green, anthracite, coral and light gray.
