a circular economy mapping session

CEC is thrilled by the participation, knowledge and network built through the Circular Economy Mapping Week held in over 65 cities worldwide during this past week [5th – 11th February 2018]. During this week, CEC Organizers voluntarily set up group sessions to map the circular initiatives in their cities. Workshops took place in 65+ cities, including Bangkok, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Madrid, Montreal, New York, London, São Paulo, Singapore and Taipei.

70 CITIES       45 COUNTRIES      2,000 PARTICIPANTS       3,000 INITIATIVES

The CEC Mapping Week had two objectives:

  1. To bring together circular enthusiasts to discuss and learn about the latest circular initiatives happening in their cities; and
  2. To map out circular initiatives taking place globally and make this information available online and free for all.

Why is this useful and who benefits? One of the challenges in implementing the circular economy framework is understanding what circularity means in practice,  what is already working and what is not. The Mapping Week helps solve this challenge by gathering as many circular initiatives as possible in an open online directory.

Researchers will have thousands of examples to analyse; teachers will have plenty of case studies to use for their classes; students will be able to browse and learn from what is being done; businesses will find sustainable alternatives to solve some of the challenges they face when trying to become more environmentally friendly; startups will be able to understand whether their ideas have a market and are working already somewhere else; governments will have a clear outlook of what is being done in their regions when deciding what needs public support; investors will find projects they can back and help grow.

Now that the Mapping Week results are online, which are the next steps?

The CEC mapping session organizers are sharing the results in their communities while the CEC global team is working to ensure the results are published in the most user-friendly way. The club is also defining the next global challenge so that we can build up on all this knowledge. If you have data on circular economy and would like to contribute, please add a comment to the grid or alternatively email us at info@CircularEconomyClub.com for collaboration opportunities.
