Qu’est-ce que l’économie circulaire?

“À moins que nous nous dirigeons vers une économie circulaire, c’est fini pour la planète; c’est fini pour la société ”

Cette phrase résume l’importance qu’a pour nous, pour nos sociétés et notre planète la transition de l’économie linéaire de la production et consommation constantes et de masse à une économie circulaire. L’économie circulaire, axée sur le 12e des 17 objectifs de développement durable des Nations Unies (consommation et production responsables), a investi cinq stratégies clés pour parvenir à la circularité: réduire, réutiliser, recycler, renouveler et réinventer. Il vise à redéfinir la croissance, à déconnecter l’activité économique de la consommation de ressources limités et à concevoir les déchets hors système. C’est une approche holistique qui s’applique dans 3 domaines d’action différents: la demande et le comportement des consommateurs, l’offre d’acteurs économiques et la gestion des déchets à différentes échelles : des États-nations, des grandes entreprises et des organisations aux petites associations, aux ONG et aux individus. Du global au local!

À propos de la CEC global projection

Nous prenons ainsi l’initiative d’organiser une projection du premier documentaire long métrage au monde sur l’économie circulaire “Closing the Loop ” (2008), récompensé par le double prix Telly Award et par le prix Emmy, de Graham Sheldon. Nous participons activement aux projections globales proposées par le réseau international d’économie circulaire Circular Economy Club (CEC). Ce documentaire explore les différentes initiatives prises par les acteurs locaux dans le monde entier, illustrant d’exemples d’Europe, d’Amérique du Sud et d’Afrique. Il présente également des idées d’experts du Forum économique mondial (de Davos) et des universités de Cambridge et Harvard. La projection a un double objectif: premièrement, montrer ce que l’économie circulaire signifie concrètement et, deuxièmement, nous donner l’occasion de discuter des différentes façons dont l’économie circulaire peut être mise en œuvre dans notre ville.

Pour ces raisons, après la projection suivra une discussion ouverte avec Justine Laurent (CEC Paris organisatrice et Directrice de Wiithaa, Agence de design circulaire) et Pauline Thieberge (chargée de mission des affaires européennes et juridiques de l’Institut National de l’économie circulaire).

La planification de l’événement est la suivante:

19H00: Inscription et buffet, introduction de la CEC
19H30: Projection du documentaire “Closing the Loop ” (avec sous-titres Français)
21H00: Discussion ouverte avec Justine Laurent et Pauline Thieberge.

What is the circular economy?

“Unless we go to Circular it’s game over for the planet; it’s game over for society”

This phrase summarizes the importance that has for us, for our societies and our planet the transition from the current take-make-waste linear economy of constant and mass production and consumption to a borrow-use-return circular economy. Circular economy, focusing on the 12th of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (Responsible Consumption and Production) set in motion five key strategies to achieve circularity: reduce, reuse, recycle, renew and reinvent. It aims on redefining growth, disconnecting economic activity from the consumption of finite resources and designing waste out of the system. It is a holistic approach that applies in 3 different action areas: the demand and consumer behavior, the offer of economic actors and the waste management and on different scales. From the nation states, the large businesses and organisations to the small associations, NGOs and individuals. From the global to the local!

About the CEC Global Screening

We are taking thus the initiative to organize a screening of the world’s first feature-length documentary film on the circular economy “Closing the loop” (2008), directed by the two-time Telly Award and Emmy Award winner, Graham Sheldon. We actively participate in the Global Screenings proposed by the international circular economy network Circular Economy Club (CEC). This documentary explores the various initiatives that had been taken by local actors around the world, showcasing examples from Europe, South America and Africa and featuring insights from experts from the World Economic Forum and the Universities of Cambridge and Harvard. The screening has a double goal: firstly, to show what the circular economy means in practical terms and secondly to give us the opportunity to discuss on the various ways that the circular economy can be implemented in our city.

For these reasons, after the screening will follow an open discussion with Justine Laurent (CEC Paris organiser and director of Wiithaa, agency of circular design) and Pauline Thieberge.

The planning of the event is the following:

19H00 : Registration and welcome drinks, introduction of CEC
19H30 : Screening of the documentary “Closing the Loop” (English with French subtitles)
21H00 : Open discussion with Justine Laurent and Pauline Thieberge (Institut National de l’économie circulaire).

We do hope you will join our screening and more importantly the open discussion, so that we will be able to come up collectively with ideas on how to make circular economy the dominant paradigm of our times!!
