The Centre for Policy and Governance (CPU) is a think tank established in 2009, with the goal to support and promote sustainable development processes. Our mission is to conduct high-quality, independent research with aim to provide innovative, practical recommendations to governmental institutions, and through that work, we recognized the field of circular economy as very important element for sustainable and long-term growth of the country.
As national economy is one of the least competitive in the region, and relies heavily on exports of energy, carbon- and carbon-intensive products, we see that some progress has been made in recent years on legislation in the area of environment, but the concept of a circular economy is not recognized in laws and regulations, and it is also quite unknown to the general public.
We want to promote developmental opportunities and business prospects related to the application of the circular economy model in BiH, to include the concept, opportunities, economic, social, and environmental benefits of this model. We also plan to identify and promote good practices and business models of the circular economy, with a high potential to scale-up.
Our activities consist of three key components: (1) research, (2) capacity development and networking, and (3) advocacy. We feel that starting a CEC in Sarajevo will allow us to network with other enthusiasts, activists and pioneers from private sector, academia and politics, and create a network of stakeholders that will be strong advocacy group for the matters related to sustainable and inclusive development based on the principles of circular economy. We also feel the CEC will provide value (knowledge, resources, branding) for all network members.
