  • Fairtrade Fortnight in Lindfield

For two weeks every year, in many parts of the world, events are held to promote Fairtrade certified products. The Fairtrade mark means that producers of goods in developing countries are guaranteed a price to cover the costs of sustainable production. An additional premium is built into the price we pay which allows the producer communities to invest in local infrastructure such as education and health. Fairtrade also ensures safer and ethical working conditions.

Lindfield was accredited as a Fairtrade Village in April 2018 and now more people are buying Fairtrade products as well as continuing to source their food locally.

To celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, Fairtrade Lindfield is holding a Brunch from 10am to 11.30am on Saturday 9th March in King Edward Hall. The tea, coffee and sugar will be provided by Fairtrade producers in developing countries. The food to be served will be supplied by shops in Lindfield High Street and local producers of meat, cheese and eggs. The cost will be £5 per person (£2.50 under 16 years), payable on the door.

Join us and enjoy a Brunch of locally sourced food to mark Fairtrade Fortnight with a choice of Fairtrade tea, coffee and juice; you can even make your own banana smoothie!

It is also an opportunity to view, taste and buy locally sourced products from the stalls of Lindfield retailers and producers in the surrounding area including: Paul’s Greengrocers, High Weald Dairy, Fellows Bakery, Magic Pixies Eco Cleaning Company, Bartie’s Sussex Faire and Co-op Food.

You will hear from Jeremy Burdett of Cockhaise Farm about sustainable farming, Colin McFarlin of West Sussex Waste Prevention on “Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle” and Charley of Charlotte’s Cupboard about packaging-free shopping.

Connect with local friends & neighbours and be inspired as to how we can, together, build a fairer world.

To reserve a place at the Brunch, please email Fairtrade@growthinternational.com or call Chris Lee on 01444 484063
