Plastics and replacement materials in circular economy system – opportunities, challenges and consumer engagement

Plastics are one of the main environmental focus areas of our time. However, plastic is also a very efficient packaging material. New plastic replacing materials are produced of renewable raw materials and are very often biodegradable. But are there challenges with their environmental impacts? How does the recycling affect to the environmental impacts? And most importantly, what are the consumer impacts on recycling the plastics or plastic replacement materials? How can we engage consumers to act and what is required from the society for the effective circular economy?
